Despite the coolness of where their name comes (the Beat Generations William Seward Burroughs reference! - yes really and if you don’t know what steely dan was then where the heck have you bin!?) from this kinda smooth rock was never a ‘thing’ much over here in the UK although they had their followers of course (did they ever tour?) but despite their obviously musical talents was this a one hit wonder? [I mean speaking of ugly and they say us Brits have bad teeth?! Well jeez guess they sorted that out darned quick!]
Steely Dan - Do It Again 1972 eleased it as a single from their debut album Can't Buy a Thrill.

What?? Not keen on The Dan???? Oh man. Yes they did tour here, for a while until they became a 'studio band' (I think it was from Aja onwards). Best song? Wow, there's loads by my reckoning, but I think this just about takes it - if only for the guitar solo(s) by Jeff 'Skunk' Baxter: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GCX635Z7_PE
And if you want some live Dan, check out Nearly Dan (saw them last year at The Stables,MK - brilliant) they're at the The Mill Arts Centre, Banbury in October. Come on man, you know you should!!
Keep on rocking in the free world, neighbour DD
