Start the Week with a Rousing Song! | Artists United Against Apartheid - (Ain’t Gonna Play) Sun City

Thanks for the Reminder to Art From The Future!

Artists United Against Apartheid, “Sun City”

"The greatest of the ‘80s benefit singles, both as a tune and as a united effort by an amazing array of artists. I mean, c'mon, George Clinton, Lou Reed, Rubén Blades, Run DMC, Bonnie Raitt, Joey Ramone, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Nona Hendryx, Miles Davis…

And, really, I need a “Sun City” for today. Because apartheid, as we know, wasn’t limited to, and didn’t die in, South Africa. Israel is, and has been for many years, an apartheid state, and the images included here of SA police beating Black South Africans only need a bit of tweaking to capture the treatment of Palestinians. And that was before Israel decided to wipe out the Palestinian people over the last 12 months. With our heavy armaments and tacit political support.

As Bobby Womack sings here, “Somebody tell me why are we always on the wrong side.” Art From The Future
