KRLA . . . . . THE HOLLYWOOD BOWL in 1966!

Ever the fan of Americana [things of American origin art, music, writing, alternative counter culture ] then this is a joy to behold as it contains several of the earliest influences and bands I adored; admittedly in odd order and juxtaposition and whilst I was young and just post- Monkees my burgeoning adoration of love for the Lovin’  Spoonful, it would be some time until I discovered Love [Forever Changes really]. The Captain hisself much later (Trout Mask and then earlier and forever onward!] and I didn’t really ‘dig’ the Beach Boys early surfing’ schtick it was all too too foreign (Charley don’t surf!) What was a lil Deuce Coupe? Sir Douglas (of Quintet fame?) would be much much later (thru’ Dylan?) and the Byrds though their covers of Bobby too (the first way lots of British heard any Dylan although we may not have known Manfred Man’s Mighty Quinn was our Bob for the longest time . . . but clearly SOMETHING was going on

Oh to be in Hollywood in the Summer of ‘66

59 YEARS AGO ON THIS DAY in 1966, The Beach Boys The Byrds, Love, Captain Beefheart, The Lovin Spoonful and Percy Sledge all appeared at The Hollywood Bowl, Hollywood, California.

According to the (usually very reliable) 'Electricity' site (link below), Captain Beefheart and His Magic Band did actually perform at this June 1966 event.
