On this day in music history: March 18, 1950 - “(Put Another Nickel In) Music! Music! Music!” by Teresa Brewer hits #1 on the Billboard Best Sellers chart for 4 weeks. Written by Stephen Weiss and Bernie Baum, it is the biggest hit for the pop vocalist born Theresa Breuer in Toledo, OH. Signed to London Records in the US, the song is recorded on December 20, 1949. Originally released as the B-side of her debut single “Copenhagen”, DJ’s and the public prefers “Music!” instead. “Music! Music! Music” goes on to sell nearly two million copies and becomes the signature song for the then eighteen year old singer. Brewer’s version inspires numerous cover versions including ones by Bill Haley, The Sensations, and The Happenings. In addition to the original 1950 hit version, Teresa Brewer re-records the song four more times over the years in 1962, 1973, 1974 and 1976.
