Like Some Cool River :: Reimagining Richard Thompson

The one-and-only Richard Thompson recently wrapped up a U.S. tour that featured career-spanning setlists. From Fairport Convention’s “Tale In Hard Time” (Thompson’s very first songwriting effort) to fresh tunes from his fantastic new LP 13 Rivers, the shows were a good reminder of just how deep the man’s catalogue goes. For performers in the know, these songs have provided a rich source of material to re-imagine and reconstruct. Like Some Cool Riveris a sampling of Richard Thompson covers from over the decades, with inspired offerings from old comrades (Sandy Denny, Iain Matthews) alongside devoted acolytes (Robyn Hitchcock, Stephen Malkmus). There are a few surprises along the way, too. Dig in … words /t wilcox
