JACK NITZSCHE
The debut by one of the most extraordinary figures in music. Part of Phil Spector's team behind the 'Wall of Sound' He introduced Ry Cooder to The Rolling Stones. He arranged Doris Day's 'Move Over Darling'. Played keyboards on many Rolling Stones hits (on six albums worth, go on count 'em! from 1965 to Sticky Fingers in 1971!). Played keyboards with Neil Young's Crazy Horse band. Played earlier with Buffalo Springfield. Came up with the soundtrack for 'Performance' and also wrote film scores for 'The Exorcist' and 'One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest', so that's two out of three of my favourite films! He co-wrote the film classic 'Up Where We Belong' with, wait for it, Buffy St Marie and long term Steve Winwood collaborator, Will Jennings. As unlikely a trio as you might ever expect to write together if ever there was one!Not all good mind and like his mentor Spector had a er, ahem, mixed relationship with guns having been accused of raping actor and ex-Neil Young partner, Carrie Snodgrass with rape by gun barrel and waving a gun later at youths trying to take his hat!
Mercurial is maybe the polite term . . . . . . . he suffered a stroke in '98 and passed away in 2000
