There's really not much going on out in the music blogosphere (it's a word!) today but Urbanaspirines has posted a piece and album exploring the world of Goth Punk . . . . . .I never really thought of it as a genre or movement but a number of individual bands who focused on the darker side of stuff like Birthday Party with Nick Cave and The Damned with their shock gothic jokey schtick. But the compilation actually makes perfect sense and is really worth a read as ever and a listen to a collective of various artists exploring the dark side of their contemporary sounds

Urban says:
Gothic rock (also called goth rock or goth) is a style of rock music that emerged from post-punk in the United Kingdom in the late 1970s. The first post-punk bands which shifted towards dark music with gothic overtones include Siouxsie and the Banshees, Joy Division, Bauhaus, and the Cure.
