Why the Beach Boys didn’t release their own version is a puzzle - did no one want to be seen as “dumb”. But here is a really good British version by Dani Sheridan, produced by Shel Talmy (Kinks, Who). The gender switch makes the song a very different song - for a man to admit being dumb is might be seen as “sensitive and vulnerable”, while it would have been more acceptable for a woman to be seen seen as “dumb”. Yeah, I know."
