Tour dates, one-off’s, movies and DJ sessions are upon us. And management asked me to put some words out.

In Gigsville, we’ve got one more show at HopMonk Novato on Saturday, September 26 to bring the Cumbia Shoes in for a landing this summer. (Low ticket alert)
On October 8, I’ll be at the La Playa Hotel in Carmel-by-the-Sea spinning records. Digging deep into my stash of 45s. There’ll be 50s and 60s trash and soundtracks, Latin Psych, Caribbean Soul, Wrecking Crew side streets, Dutch Glam, honky-tonkers, Georgia swampers, rockabilly cats and kittens, and every other critter in the musical menagerie.
All 7" vinyl. No digital substitutes.
On October 24, we’re playing the Popsicle Festival in Carrboro, North Carolina with our friends the Young Fresh Fellows and more.
And then, in November, The Folk Rock Rampage continues as our Acoustic Quartet heads overseas. Note that in select cities we’ll be playing with a string quartet (Utrecht, Liverpool). The Folk Rock Rampage Acoustic Quartet is: Stephie Finch: singing and playing piano, Mike Anderson on upright bass, Sean Nelson on drums. And yours truly.
Plan accordingly.
With every advance ticket sold, we add another set of sit-ups and push ups to our routine. That’s right, we’re training hard. Getting ready to put some miles on those roller bags. Be there in body or spirit or both.
Operators are standing by.
In other news: If you’ve been following this newsletter over the years you’ll know how we’re always going on about what a great movie town the Cool Gray City of Love was once upon a time. And how we’re such big fans of the great indoors. And how movie theaters are on the endangered species list and how we’ve been losing these places of worship every time we rest our eyes. But wait. Do you smell what’s cooking?
CinemaSF is turning all that around. Doing a whole lot more than just keeping the lights on at three repertory theaters in town: 4-Star, Balboa Theater, and The Vogue Theatre.
Yes, CinemaSF is on a mission. And Adam Beregeron (formerly of 12 Galaxies) is running the show. Along with first-run movies, repertory classics, cult films, documentaries, and midnight movies (Rocky Horror Picture Show Will. Not. Die.) Some nights directors and filmmakers turn up and answer questions. Sometimes there is live music (often times, if I’m involved). Live in the flesh bands! DJ's spinning records. And in the case of Robert Anderson, a real live circa 1906 Gramaphone. Adam is into making these nights events.
It’s a neighborhood hang. They even have a record store in the lobby.
Down the road, they’ve asked me to host a monthly night. I’m pretty psyched about it.
But before we officially launch “Chuck Prophet’s Cinema Discotheque A-Go-Go” series. (Watch this space.) I’ll be subbing one more time for Robert Anderson’s Foggcutter Film Series. While Robert is away, I’ll be hosting and we’re screening...
The Buddy Holly Story – October 14 at the 4-Star.
ADDED BONUS: We’re putting a Crickets inspired band together for the occasion. (Upright bass, brushes, piano and guitars. . .) And we’ll be playing some Buddy Holly classics live and in the flesh before the film.
