PiL - HOME
On this date in 1986, PiL released their fifth studio album, ALBUM, (January 27th, 1986).
On 1986’s ALBUM (also known as Compact Disc or Cassette depending on the format), producer Bill Laswell had assembled a band enough to slacken even the most hardened cynic's jaw – aside from Laswell himself on bass and John Lydon, the outfit featured Yellow Magic Orchestra's Ryuichi Sakamoto on keyboards, Tony Williams, the legendary Ginger Baker on drums and find-of-the-month Steve Vai on crunchola guitar.
ALBUM was arguably the strongest selection of poptunes PiL had turned out since Metal Box, one of the great LPs of the '80s.
The video here is the post-punk snarl of HOME, the underrated second and final single from ‘Album’.

The band – guitarist Michael Timmins, vocalist Margo Timmins, drummer Peter Timmins and bassist Alan Anton – proved with their million-selling 1998 album The Trinity Session that there was an audience waiting for something quiet, beautiful and reflective.

Combining folk, blues and rock in a way never heard before, its release was like a whisper that cut through the noise, especially the iconic version of Velvet Underground’s ‘Sweet Jane’.

With Songs of the Recollection, Cowboy Junkies turn once again to covers, this time from artists like David Bowie, the Rolling Stones and Neil Young.

Of the new release, Michael Timmins says: ‘Long before we were musicians, we were music fans. This was the passion and experience that we shared. These are some of the songs and some of the artists that have found their way into our lives and repertoire over the past 50 years.’

XTC - LIVE in BELGIUM '82 - Fight this sickness find a Cure

XTC

LIVE IN BRUSSELS, BELGIUM 1982

Superb quality from FM broadcast tho' nobody seems to know who aired it!

from Fight This Sickness Find a Cure blog! A relatively new site for me . . . . . . they feature quite a few fine albums and links to ROIOs and came across them through the other guys at Floppy Boot Stomp and Voodoo Wagon that I support here and especially as they had featured a couple of XTC recordings lately. This show starts with perhaps the best live version of Runaways I have heard!

This is a show from the final XTC tour (this concert was broadcast on FM radio), from a gig at L'Ancienne Belgique, Brussels, Belgium, on the 7th March 1982.

The last major hit of XTC's touring phase was "Senses Working Overtime," the first single from their double album English Settlement and a top 10 hit in 1982.

At the peak of their popularity, the band embarked on a major tour, but Andy Partridge suffered a mental breakdown on stage during one of the first concerts of the tour in Paris on March 18th, 1982. The European and British dates were cancelled and after completing only one show in San Diego the whole US leg was also abandoned.
