🇩🇪 ⛪️ 🎸 25 years ago today, May 12, on the verge of the release of Reveal, the band’s free concert in Cologne, Germany for an estimated 100,000 fans in the Roncalliplatz by the Kolner Dom took place. It was an incredible show broadcast live on MTVEurope with people from all over Europe and much of the world there on that special night.

Song of The Day | REM - Wichita Lineman - 1994 [Jimmy Webb]

 Now for reasons best left to someone else I was never really a fan of the singer who made this song so famous in Glen Campbell and may have misjudged him, but the songwriter here came to me much much later in the legendary Jimmy Webb who I only really began to appreciate in recent years (well the past twenty?) That this classic song should be covered by Michael and the band here speaks volumes . . . . .

R.E.M. - Pretty Persuasion Feb 27/28 2025!

The four original members of R.E.M. reunited on Thursday, February 27 and Friday, February 28 to perform “Pretty Persuasion” at the 400 Watt Club in their hometown of Athens, Georgia.

All four members of R.E.M. (Michael Stipe, Bill Berry, Mike Mills, Peter Buck) joined Michael Shannon, Jason Narducy & Friends at Athens, GA's 40 Watt Club on 2/28 to perform "Pretty Persuasion."

The show is part of Shannon & Narducy's tour where they're playing R.E.M.'s 'Fables of the Reconstruction' and more with a band that includes Jon Wurster on drums.

Chronic Town established R.E.M.'s signature sound immediately, expanding the jangling riffs of their debut single, "Radio Free Europe," into a full-fledged modus operandi...

..Recorded at Mitch Easter's Drive-In Studios, the EP has an endearingly ragged sound -- it's a garage band playing jangling pop songs, and while the music is melodic and memorable, it has an underground mentality that keeps it from sounding conventional. Not only does the lo-fi production keep the music underground, but so do Peter Buck's ringing arpeggios, Michael Stipe's incomprehensible mumbled vocals, and the band's amateurish enthusiasm. They might not be accomplished players, but already their songwriting is distinctive, with "Gardening at Night," "Wolves, Lower," and "Carnival of Sorts (Box Cars)" ranking as early classics.

This is really great and better than one might imagine . . . . . . . the germ of a band it is more than that as they find their signature style and sound

I know I post TWILIGHTZONE’S  ‘history’ postings usually and maybe one could be forgiven for not expecting R.E.M. here but they are nothing is not eclectic and the comments are well worth a read as ever . . . . . . really cool stuff for more than just avid fans
