HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANN MAGNUSON!

Portrait by Rocky Schenck.

 January Birthday’s include this ‘star!'

"Happy birthday to vivacious American performance artist, conceptualist, actress, nightclub entrepreneur, musician and Shirley MacLaine lookalike – Miss Ann Magnuson (born 4 January 1956)! My introduction to the woman once described by Vanity Fair as “the East Village's High Priestess of Low Life” was via her brief but unforgettable appearance as the black leather-jacketed and fingerless-gloved punk vixen vampirized by David Bowie at the beginning of The Hunger (1983). (Yes, that’s her!). Then came the shock-o-rama faux documentary Mondo New York (1988) (in which Magnuson literally flogs a dead horse, also featuring perennial favourites like Lydia Lunch and Joey Arias), the sitcom Anything But Love, her cameo as the cigarette girl in Desperately Seeking Susan (1985) and of course the psychedelic band Bongwater. And she released some new music last year. Lady – keep doing what you’re doing! "
