In April 2017, American folk musician Josh Tillman under his pseudonym Father John Misty, released his third studio album, Pure Comedy. This is Tillman’s third studio album since his departure from Fleet Foxes. The album received nominations for Best Alternative Music Album and Best Recording Package for its deluxe edition at the 60th Grammy Awards, winning the latter in a tie with Magín Díaz’ El Orisha de la Rosa. In June 2018, Tillman released his fourth studio album, God’s Favorite Customer.
On April 8, 2022, Father John Misty released his fifth studio album, Chloë and the Next 20th Century. The album draws sonic inspiration from big band, jazz standards, and traditional pop. It has been compared to Randy Newman’s Sail Away (1972) and Harry Nilsson’s A Little Touch of Schmilsson in the Night (1973). The album is distinguished by its cinematic quality, with Mojo calling it as a “Hollywood album moving from the ’30s through to the ’60s and melding those influences to create an imagined version of the past.” - wikipedia
