NICK CAVE, WHAT TO PLAY WHEN HE'S DONE

ISSUE #139 / MARCH 2021

Nick Cave has answered a question on his Red Hand Files website to a fan who had recently lost his father, and gave him an Elvis-themed funeral. "No, we didn't dress up in white jumpsuits, but his coffin had Elvis pictures and lyrics, and Elvis songs were played for him," the fan wrote. "I don't know if anyone has asked you this before in The Red Hand Files, but what songs would you like played at your own funeral?"

To which Cave replied: "I was very moved by your letter. I'm sure your dad would have been very happy with his Elvis themed funeral. Thinking about it, I would be very happy with one too - to be ushered into the next world by the voice of the greatest rock 'n' roll singer of them all.

"Kentucky Rain, that's what I'd like, Kentucky Rain and How Great Thou Art - Elvis singing gospel, with heaven and all its angels listening. It was a lovely thing to do for your dad. Sounds like you did a great job."

Sweet story and hope it's true but Elvis at your funeral? Nope! Pas pour moi!!!

GENE SIMMONS OF KISS SAYS 'WEAR A FACE MASK'

"You must stop at a red light, and you must put on your seatbelt, and you can't drive over the speed limit. Your rights stop if you effect others. So why should you have a say in not wearing a mask in public?" asked Gene Simmons of Kiss on Twitter, March 20.

"Another question for all you geniuses out there. Why is it ALL surgeons, without exception... anywhere in the world, wear masks during surgery!!! Do you think they do that for political reasons, or could it be you are delusional and are hanging out with losers... What say you?"

It's not the first time Simmons has criticised people for not adhering to the mask-wearing recommendations in America. Last December, Simmons appealed to everyone to wear a face mask, sharing a photo of KISS donning masks ahead of a virtual concert.

"Wear your masks. Even if it's only as a courtesy," he said. "If you yawn, or sneeze, you don't think twice about covering your mouth. Do the rest of us a favor! Mask Up!... Besides, it looks cool."

...Or kiss his ass.
So of course he made a KISS mask price? $29.99

BACK TO VALVE, BACK TO MONO, BACK TO VINYL
MONEY EARNED FROM UK VINYL SALES SET TO OVERTAKE CDs

Sales of vinyl in the UK are on track to overtake CDs for the first time in decades, with record labels last year seeing a 30 per cent boost in income from the traditional format according to a BPI report. Geoff Taylor, chief executive of the British Phonographic Industry (BPI), told The Guardian: "Vinyl's exceptional performance despite retail lockdowns confirms its role as a long-term complement to music streaming. 2021 is likely to be the year in which revenues from LPs overtake those from CDs for the first time in well over three decades - since 1987. In addition to the immediacy and convenience of streaming, fans want to get closer to the artists they love by owning a tangible creation." How many records sold in the UK in 2020? The total number was 4.8 million records. But the number of CDs sold in the same period was 16 million, however the revenue earned from vinyl sales has been rising.
